Family & Medical Counseling Service Inc. Internship

Family and Medical Counseling Service, Inc. Family and Medical Counseling Service, Inc. (FMCS) is a multidisciplinary, not-for-profit, community health center located east of the Anacostia River. Our services include Primary Medical, Behavioral Health (Mental Health and Substance Abuse), Medical Nutrition Therapy, Food Assistance, and Outreach. We are currently seeking an individual for a year-long internship (for 12-16 hours per week) focused on quality improvement (QI) in healthcare. Goals of QI include, but are not limited to, tracking health outcomes and measuring provider performance. Collected data is used in aggregate reports and to identify areas within the organization that require change and/or improvement. As the QI Intern, you will assist the QI Department in these and other related activities.

Responsibilities of the QI Intern:

 Learn and understand policy standards related to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH)

 Assist with reviewing patient charts and developing reports to monitor compliance with program standards

 Assist with generating lists, making reminder calls, and sending reminder letters to patients not recently seen by the Primary Medical department

 Assist with reviewing and entering patient information into electronic medical record (EMR) and verifying and correcting patient data as needed

 Assist with other QI activities and attend QI meetings Job requirements:

 Interest in healthcare

 Great attention to detail

 Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

 Ability to work both individually and as a team member

 Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided.

 

Internship details:

 The position is available immediately.

 There is flexibility with scheduling weekly hours, but candidates must be able to work 12-16 hours per week.

 The internship is voluntary and will offer a wide range of experience in working in a healthcare settings, patient interaction and engagement activities, as well as opportunities to attend conferences in Washington, DC.
